If you are curious to why we developed our own CNC machine versus buying one, give this a read.
I wanted a CNC that had the quality and precision of the industrial machines by using ball screws and linear rails. Use GRBL over Mach3/4 for the controller with matched electronics, an attached enclosure, proper cooling, simple cable management and front control panel with a off-line controller & E-Stop for convenience. I also wanted to keep the axis light, but rigid, so using 18mm Baltic Birch plywood is perfect to complete our Harbour CNC.
Features:
Our machines are a fusion of wood (Baltic birch plywood) for the structure and rigidity while using quality steel linear rails, ballscrews, end supports and aluminum bearing blocks for precise movement for your project.
- Baltic Birch 18mm (3/4) 13 plies
- SFU1605 ball screws with BK12/BF12 end machining for X & Y axis.
- SBR16 linear rails with SBR16UU block bearings.
- BK12 & BF12 end supports.
- SFU1204 ball screws with BK10/BF10 end machining for Z axis.
- SBR12 linear rails with SBR12UU block bearings.
- BK10 & BK10 end supports.
Our electronics have been designed and matched for all our machines. We have a under-bed cabinet to house the electronics with fans for cooling the electronics and drivers. A front control panel with switches for easy operation. We also included a off-line controller and E-Stop for convenience.
- GRBL version 1.1e firmware & Universal G-code
- Aduino with CNC shield V3 expansion board
- TB6600 stepper motor drivers
- NEMA 23 3.0Amp 269Oz stepper motors
- 12V 30Amp 360Watt Universal Regulated Power Supply
- Micro limit switches
- Nested semi closed drag chain
- 12V cooling fans
- Front panel lighted toggle switches
- Offline control module with SD memory card
- Rotary push button E-Stop switch

Would I like your first machine to be a Harbour CNC? Yes, but if you have never used a CNC before, want to see if a CNC is for you or learn the software and process to run a CNC, I would suggest purchasing a My Sweety 3018 first. I personally have one and use it for smaller projects and for laser engraving.
